Thanatos has two forms that he takes. His human form is that of a man in his late twenties with shoulder length dark brown hair, tan skin. Both forms have him as is lean and muscular, with a regal face, honey gold eyes, that are sometimes brown. In his more god like form his skin is the color of teakwood, and he has wings that glimmer in shades of blue, black, and purple. He has a timeless look to him and most times a distant and remote look to his face.
Personality wise Thanatos is merciless and undiscriminating. He has a mutual hatred for both the other gods as well as mortals, well most of them. It takes a lot to be on his good side and from him to accept anyone. He is loyal to his family for the most part and takes his job very seriously. Underneith that thick skin and when you get used to him Thanatos has a very dark sense of humor. He is a clown when he chooses and is easily amused, especially when it is at the embarrassment, or pain of others. He is a very sadistic god. Then again he is in charge of making sure spirits do not cross from the land of the dead to the living world. It is a very dark job. He has no care for returning a favor unless you are someone he does care for (and yes he does have some of those). Desipte the harness of his appearance and outer personality his touch is very gentle, because he is the god of a peaceful death. Violent death was the domain of Thanatos' blood-craving sisters, the Keres, spirits of slaughter and disease.
His family consist of Nyx goddess of night as his mother, Erebos god of darkness and mist as his father, Hypnos god of sleep as his twin, Morpheus god of dreams as his nephew, the Keres as his sisters. He doesn't view any of the demigods of his siblings or parents as family save for one (they have to earn that right). Thanatos has forever done his job as seeing to it that people die, there spirits enter the underworld and none return unless given permission by himself or hades. However Susyphus changed that, when it came time for Sisyphus to die, Zeus ordered Thanatos to chain Sisyphus up in Tartarus. Sisyphus cheated death by tricking Thanatos into his own shackles, thereby prohibiting the demise of any mortal while Thanatos was so enchained. Eventually Ares grew frustrated with the battles he incited since neither side suffered any casualties. He released Thanatos and handed his captor over to the god. Sisyphus would evade Death a second time by convincing Persephone to allow him to return to his wife stating that she never gave him a proper funeral. This time, Sisyphus was forcefully dragged back to the Underworld by Hermes when Sisyphus refused to accept his death. Sisyphus was sentenced to an eternity of frustration in Tartarus where he rolled a boulder up a hill and it would roll back down when he got close to the top. Thanatos gained some respect for Ares and for Hermes at that time. Also the gods gave him a bit more of respect seeing how important it was for mortals to die and stay dead. He doesn't take sides but he will visit the Camp to help out on occasion.
Since Thanatos is the god of death, he has control over death, he can control the dead, and he can kill someone with a touch. As part of his duties, Thanatos is able to separate the dead from the living. He captures souls trying to escape from the Underworld and sends them back. Also, because he usually is in control of the Doors of Death, he is able to quickly pass between the world of the living and the dead.
He owns a pure black iPad that he uses to keep track of the escaped souls. This ipad stays with him at all times. His weapon of choice is his long scythe with a Stygian Iron blade.
